There is a tight coupling between my creative work and my scholarly agenda, as each new creative project helps to crystallize research questions. Research and scholarly writing enable me to address these questions in clear and broadly applicable terms, outside of the pressure of the creative moment. The cycle continues, as research and writing frame new creative challenges, leading to the next artistic project. This symbiotic relationship between creative work and research is productive and rewarding: scholarship stays grounded in practical and meaningful questions, and research becomes an opportunity for reflection, depth, and inspiration.
