sfSound returns to the newly renovated ODC Theater with
another "Great Program!"™ by sfSound, this concert covers a wide range of contemporary music - both local and abroad.
Kyle, Ben, and Monica begin with a recent work by Michael Pisaro. A professor at CalArts and member of the hip Wandelweiser Composers Ensemble, Pisaro's music is influenced by Cage/Feldman/New York School and has similarities to the "lowercase" improv scene.
In a complete contrast, Ma++, Kjell, and Gino play a work for clarinets and 2 bass drums by Magnus Lindberg . This is an early work by Lindberg, influenced by Xenakis and Globokar -- way more dynamic and visceral than his recent music.
In addition, Monica will be performing a sweet piece for cello-with-two-bows and ensemble by György Kurtág, originally written for Frances-Marie Uittiti.
We also premiere a new chamber work written for sfSound by the extremely talented Berkeley-based composer Daniel Cullen, featuring violinist Ben Kreith.
Rounding out the program, sfSound's Kyle Bruckmann and Kjell Nordeson present pieces specifically created for sfSound's unique skill-set with a blend of notation, improvisation, and electronics.
